Kenneth Petty, the husband of Nicki Minaj, has been sentenced to three years of probation and one year of home detention for failing to register as a sex offender.
Mr Petty was also ordered to pay a fine of $55,000 by a Los Angeles judge after pleading guilty to failing to register as a sex offender in California as part of a plea agreement In September 2021 .
Petty is believed to have moved to California in July 2019 and was required to register as a sex offender within five working days of moving to the state but failed to.
Guidelines from New York State’s Sex Offender Registry indicate that an offender must notify the Division of Criminal Justice Services within 10 days of any change of address.
Petty was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in New York in 1995 when he was 16 years old and served time in prison for the offense.
Petty and Nicki Minaj were sued in 2021 by the woman who said Petty attempted to assault her in 1995. Minaj was subsequently dropped from the lawsuit.
Petty and Minaj moved to California in 2019 after getting married. The couple has a 2-year-old son.
