A man and a woman arrested for the alleged illegal possession of firearms and ammunition are expected to appear in the magistrate’s courts in Qumbu and Tsolo respectively in the Eastern Cape on Monday.

“The 59-year-old male suspect from New Homes location, Qumbu, was arrested and charged for illegal possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. One 9mm Norinco with a magazine and one live round were recovered. The 49-year-old female suspect was arrested for the same offence at Azania Hlongwane Street, Tsolo,” police spokesperson Captain Khaya Tonjeni said.
The woman was allegedly found in possession of a 9mm firearm, a Norinco pistol and ammunition. All the firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to determine whether they were used to commit any crimes.
